Q. What is ASNE Foundation?
A. ASNE Foundation is the charitable organization founded in 1979 to support ASNE and its commitment to leading America’s newsrooms. It is governed by a board elected from the ASNE membership to three-year, renewable terms. Contributions from members, foundations and the news industry are used to support many of ASNE’s key initiatives and programs.
Q. Are gifts to the Foundation tax deductible?
A. Yes! ASNE Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Donations are fully tax deductible to the full extent of U.S. law. The ASNE Foundation employer identification number is 23-9935413.
Q. How do I make a donation?
A. Use the donation button on this page to make an online payment now through PayPal, using your credit card, PayPal account or bank account. Donations can also be made through the ASNE office by check or credit card. Checks should be made payable in U.S. dollars to ASNE Foundation and mailed to ASNE, 11690B Sunrise Valley Dr., Reston, VA 20191. Q. How will my donation be used?
A. General (nondesignated) donations from members and others are used where there is greatest need. Such support has helped fund awards, diversity programs, activities related to craft development and ethics and values, and other ASNE priorities. Major gift support from foundations and corporations is usually designated for specific purposes.
Q. What is the “Journalism for a New Age” Endowment Campaign?
A. The campaign is a fundraising initiative conducted by ASNE Foundation to create a permanent and stable source of funds for ASNE. The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation has provided ASNE Foundation will match all donations made in 2009 at a 3:2 ratio (i.e. $2 for every $3 donated the challenge grant will provide $2). Q. Is the foundation eligible for company matching gifts?
A. Yes. Matching gifts are a great way to increase the impact of your charitable donation. Most companies’ personnel offices will have matching gift forms that you first complete and then mail to ASNE. All matched gifts are credited to your own gift record and are recognized as such on donor lists.
Q. How do I donate stock to the foundation?
A. For an electronic transfer, have your brokerage firm call ASNE for instructions in the document, Giving Matters. It is important that ASNE has knowledge of the transfer so it can value your gift appropriately for donor recognition purposes. Stock certificates can also be transferred by mail, but before doing so call ASNE or consult Giving Matters or call Scott Bosley, ASNE executive director.
