The Oregonian kicked off a retooled Friday arts and entertainment guide
last June aimed at being a complete reference point to all things there
are to do in the Portland area, not just ticketed events. Space for the
section was expanded from 64 columns weekly to an average of 124, pushing
the book to anywhere between 64 to 72 weekly. On page 2 of the section is
PDX Life (which is Portland's FAA designation for its airport) that looks
at top things to do for the weekend. There's Brew News, which surveys the
local microbrewery scene. Neighborhood Browser each week features a metro
neighborhood good for shopping and browsing for sales. The Urban Recreation
section each week features a run of the week and hike of the week as well
as reporting on biking, swimming, skateboarding and so on.
The Readings and Writings section keeps tabs on the local bookstore
scene.
The section's visually appealing 10-Day planner keeps readers abreast of
the best for the area in coming days for activities such as music, the
arts and family events, while the Family Fun section offers Cheap
Thrills, day trips and events.
