Back to the Future - San Jose Mercury News

Just as we've spent the last few minutes looking at the rapidly changing present and the not-so-far-off future, we should point out that some newspapers are going back to the future in search of great ideas.

The Mercury News in San Jose did so with the creation of its weekly Celebrations section. Traditional staples, such as births, weddings, anniversaries, honors and accolades are found inside the section amid new concepts, such as a list of reasons to celebrate (from National Forgiveness Day to the anniversary of the naming of Elvis Presley Boulevard in Memphis) to Revel With a Cause, a calender listing for fund-raisers.

On the section's cover, readers find Personal Top 11s, doing David Letterman one better; the Funniest Person in the World Is feature; reading poetry; Kids Say the Darndest Things; How I Met My True Love; or The Best Thing I Ever Learned from my mother, father, friend, etc.
