Republican presidential candidate John McCain told the Associated Press Annual Meeting this morning that he will back the federal shield law for journalists currently before the Senate.
The bill, titled the Free Flow of Information Act (S. 2035), would establish strict guidelines for when federal judges could force reporters to turn over notes or other information to law enforcement officials. A version of the law passed the House of Representatives last year. Similar laws have been passed in 33 states and the District of Columbia.
