Diversity Roundtables
"To cover communities fully, to carry out their role in a democracy, and to
succeed in the marketplace, the nation’s newsrooms must reflect the racial
diversity of American society by 2025 or sooner. At a minimum, all newspapers
should employ journalists of color and every newspaper should reflect the
diversity of its community." —
ASNE diversity statement
To accomplish
these goals and establish three-year benchmarks, ASNE’s leadership plans to
collaborate with other newspaper groups, including minority journalist associations,
and others to develop new strategies to raise the bar on newsroom diversity.
To that end, ASNE held three regional diversity roundtables to gather ideas
on specific issues, such as retention, newsroom climate, and expanding the pipeline.
