The wit and wisdom of Lloyd Dobyns

On his work at NBC: “My best work had to have been for “Weekend,” back in 1974 and ’75. ...Then I did nine documentaries for NBC. But no one wanted to do documentary anymore. ...”

On Tom Brokaw, “NBC Nightly News” host:  “He’s a master at getting what he wants,” rivaled only by his wife (Meredith).

On Roger Mudd, former anchor:  “One of the nicest men in the business!”

On Linda Ellerbee: “We’re still good friends and get together a few times a year. ... It’s unusual for TV colleagues to like each other.  We genuinely like each other.”

On the Dobyns-Ellerbee projects: “We attracted a strange following — people who worked all night, quirky people ... Jerry Garcia (of Grateful Dead fame) was one of our biggest fans.”
