Moving up and moving on

Jim Crutchfield is the new general manager at The Beacon Journal in Akron, Ohio. After Knight Ridder sold The Press-Telegram in Long Beach, Calif., in 1998, Crutchfield joined KR’s executive development program in Philadelphia ... David House returned to Texas where he is now Sunday editor of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He had been executive editor in Corpus Christi before moving to editor of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review in 1997 ... Rick Jensen, formerly editor of the Observer-Dispatch in Utica, N.Y., have moved to executive editor of the Press & Sun-Bulletin in Binghamton. Both papers are Gannett properties ... Did you wonder about Tom Lindley, former editor of The Flint (Mich.) Journal, when last issue we reported that Paul Keep had assumed that position? Well, Tom became a projects writer for The Daily Oklahoman in Oklahoma City ... Burl Pettit retired as editor of the Lubbock (Texas) Avalanche-Journal on Jan. 15 ... Ricardo Pimentel has joined The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, as a columnist. He had been editor of The San Bernardino County (Calif.) Sun ... Freedom Newspapers has relocated Richard Wagner across the country. He had been editor of the Kinston (N.C.) Free Press, and is now executive editor of The Daily Press of Victorville and the Desert Dispatch of Barstow, both in Calif.

The new year finds four ASNE members leaving their positions. These include David Hipschman, editor, The Forum, Fargo, N.D.; Steve Smith, editor, The Gazette, Colorado Springs; Martha Steffens, executive editor, Press & Sun-Bulletin, Binghamton, N.Y.; and Stan Tiner, executive editor, The Daily Oklahoman, Oklahoma City.
