McMasters wins Zenger award

Paul McMasters, First Amendment ombudsman at The Freedom Forum, is the recipient of the 2000 John Peter and Catherine Zenger Award for Freedom of the Press and the People's Right to Know.

McMasters is one of the nation's leading experts on First Amendment and press issues and was a great help to ASNE’s 1997 Your Right to Know project.

The award is presented by the University of Arizona. McMasters will receive the award in an April 27 presentation in Paradise Valley, Ariz.

McMasters, is former associate editorial director of USA Today and was executive director of the First Amendment Center at Vanderbilt University from 1992 to 1995.
