ASNE on the move
Convention sponsors
The ASNE convention’s opening reception, to be held at The Ronald Reagan
Building and International Trade Center on April 11 will be co-sponsored
by Parade magazine and ASNE. Freedom Communications will sponsor the Thursday
night reception at the Newseum.
Parade is one of several new sponsors this year, including USA Weekend
for Wednesday’s lunch, Tribune Media Services for Thursday’s lunch, and
King Features Syndicate and Hearst Newspapers for Friday’s lunch.
The ASNE board of directors voted at its mid-year meeting to invite
syndicates, news services and magazine vendors to help underwrite convention
meals and entertainment, which traditionally have been financed by individual
newspapers and newspaper groups. The expectation is that some newspaper
companies now will be able to redirect their support to ASNE programs and
projects that address industry issues.
Other sponsors this year include The Sun, Baltimore for the convention
program; Pulitzer Publishing Co., committee breakfast; Hearst Newspapers/Houston
Chronicle, the women’s reception; The Washington Post, convention newspaper.
Knight Ridder is funding the Cafe ASNE, where members will be able to go
online for e-mail and to read their newspaper Web sites.
