5 reasons the press isn’t slanted
1. Owners wouldn’t allow it. American news organizations
are businesses, eager to court large audiences. Biased journalism is simply
bad business.
2. Advertisers also seeking profits will find outlets other than
politically biased ones that may alienate consumers.
3. Professionalism guides the work force of American journalism,
not politics, and professional standards are enforced by serious news organizations.
4. American journalism meets an international test and is widely
admired elsewhere in the world for its comparative impartiality and fact-based
reporting.
5. Partisan journalism died in America with the 19th century and
the present emphasis is on serving audiences through informative and/or
entertaining content, not political polemic.
