ASNE praises Supreme Court decision, mourns Justice Brennan

ASNE president Sandy Rowe issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court decision that invalidated the 1996 Communications Decency Act: "We are delighted that the Supreme Court supported the First Amendment rights of Americans on the Internet. It is significant that all of the members of the high court voted to reaffirm the First Amendment."

In a statement following the death of former Supreme Court Justice William J. Brennan, the ASNE president said: "Justice Brennan has left a powerful legacy in the constitutional rights of the American people, perhaps the greatest of any person of the twentieth century. His brilliant contributions materially strengthened the freedom of speech and freedom of the press that every American enjoys on a daily basis."
