Turkey responds to protest
Turkey’s Parliament passed an amnesty bill to release from prison a
number of jailed editors, stemming from a visit by an ASNE-endorsed, Committee
to Protect Journalists-led group that aimed to halt the criminalization
of independent monitoring in Turkey. CPJ documented 78 cases of journalists
in jail in Turkey at the beginning of the year, far more than in any other
country.
