Springtime is busy for ASNE
ASNE elects eight new directors.
Members re-elected the three incumbents running to continue as ASNE
directors and named six others to join the ASNE board.
Re-elected to three-year terms were Diane McFarlin, executive
editor, Sarasota (Fla.) Herald-Tribune; Karla Garrett Harshaw,
editor, Springfield (Ohio) News-Sun; and Linda Lightfoot, executive
editor, The Advocate, Baton Rouge, La. Also elected to three-year terms
were Peter Bhatia, managing editor, The Oregonian, Portland; and
Wanda Lloyd, managing editor/features, administration and planning,
The Greenville (S.C.) News. Rick Rodriguez, managing editor, The
Sacramento (Calif.) Bee, won a two-year term and two one-year terms were
filled by Edward W. Jones, managing editor, The Free Lance-Star,
Fredericksburg, Va.; and Ralph Langer, executive vice president
and editor, The Dallas Morning News.
The board of directors elected the 1997-98 officers, as determined by
the bylaws and board action last fall. Richard A. Oppel, editor,
Austin (Texas) American-Statesman, was named treasurer; N. Christian
Anderson III, publisher, The Gazette, Colorado Springs, secretary;
Edward L. Seaton, editor-in-chief, The Manhattan (Kan.) Mercury,
vice president; and Sandra Mims Rowe, editor, The Oregonian, Portland,
president.
