ASNE on the move

Diversity director to leave ASNE

ASNE diversity director Veronica Jennings has resigned to accept a position with Times Mirror and Newsday, Melville, N.Y. Jennings has worked in the ASNE position since June 1994. In her new position at Newsday, she will be a Times Mirror Metpro.biz associate and will work in content development and new products.

“Veronica has been an energetic and effective diversity director. She has worked very hard, is strong-minded, and has been entirely committed to ASNE’s diversity goals,” ASNE executive director Lee Stinnett said. “In addition, she has been a joy to her colleagues on the ASNE staff, most especially to me. She has won the respect of the various constituencies of our diversity program, including ASNE members and the leaders of the various minority groups.”

Jennings said in a resignation note, “I want to sincerely thank ASNE for the wonderful opportunity and honor it has been to work for this organization. I will miss very much all of the tremendous people I’ve been associated with since 1994.”

ASNE launched a nationwide search to fill the position of diversity director. Candidates for the position must have experience at a daily newspaper and a background in newsroom diversity.

In terms of funds spent, newsroom diversity is ASNE’s single largest undertaking. More than $375,000 is channeled into ASNE’s diversity projects each year. “Driving the quest for newsroom diversity” is a priority in the Society’s mission statement and ASNE has taken a leading role in this area for two decades.
