More than 320 editors from around the country — one from as far away as Alaska — came to the first ACES meeting in Chapel Hill, N.C., Oct. 23-25. (More are expected at ACES’ next meeting, Sept. 10-12 in Portland, Ore.)

Most came from daily newspapers, large and small, but ACES membership is open to other types of publications, as well. Participants included an editor from an Illinois trade publication, a Minnesota weekly and a major news magazine.

ACES has grown since the October meeting. The group has now amassed about 500 members nationwide.

Membership is $35 for professional copy editors.
