ASNE on the move

Patrick Canty, former editor of the Valley Morning Star in Harlingen, Texas, is now the publisher of the Recorder in Porterville, Calif. Both are Freedom newspapers. Tom Scarritt was promoted from executive editor to editor of The Birmingham (Ala.) News. He replaced Jim Jacobson, who retired. Vicki Gowler didn’t leave Minnesota, but she did leave the Duluth News-Tribune to become managing editor of the Saint Paul Pioneer Press — both are Knight-Ridder papers. Denis Dible, former executive editor of the Beaver County Times, Beaver, Pa., is now managing editor of The Dominion Post of Morgantown, W.Va. Kevin Doyle was named associate publisher of The Post-Crescent in Appleton, Wis. He had been the newspaper’s editor. Glenn McCutchen, former publisher of The Lufkin (Texas) Daily News, has moved to the same position at the Longview (Texas) News-Journal. Gary Sawyer, former editor of the Globe-Gazette in Mason City, Iowa, is now publisher of the Gazette-Times in Corvallis, Ore.
