Ron Dillman retired from Gannett when it sold the Virgin Islands Daily News in St. Thomas. He will stay on as a consultant. Joy Franklin, former executive editor of the Times-News in Hendersonville, N.C., is now editorial page editor of the Asheville (N.C.) Citizen-Times. Lawrence Fuller has stepped down as publisher of the Honolulu Advertiser and president of the Hawaii Newspaper Agency. Having left the position of managing editor of The Ledger, in Lakeland, Fla., Hunter George is now executive editor of The Birmingham (Ala.) News. He replaced Tom Scarritt, earlier named the News’ editor. Steve Knickmeyer has resigned as managing editor of The Arizona Republic, Mark Lett is the new editor of The State in Columbia, S.C. He was editor of the Post-Tribune in Gary, Ind. Larry McDermott, executive editor of the Union-News, Springfield, Mass., has been named editor and associate publisher. And, Will Sutton has been promoted from assistant managing editor to deputy managing editor of The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C.
