ASNE on the move

For a few days in April, it appeared that Miami Herald publisher David Lawrence Jr., an ASNE past president, might be running against Jeb Bush (President Bush’s son) for governor of Florida.

mLawrence, a registered independent, was approached by state Democratic leaders and invited to run. He opted not to.

"I never sought public office," Lawrence told The American Editor, "But was asked to consider running for public office. I did, and quickly said ‘No.’ "

We should note that the above cartoon was drawn by a cartoonist for the Herald’s competitor, the Sun-Sentinel of Fort Lauderdale.
