ASNE on the move

Jane Amari has gone west. She is now publisher and executive editor of The Arizona Daily Star in Tucson, Ariz. She had been executive editor of The News Journal in Wilmington, Del. The Tallahassee (Fla.) Democrat has a new executive editor. John Winn Miller, who held the same position at the Centre Daily Times in State College, Pa., replaced Lorraine Branham who continues to consult for Knight Ridder. Dennis Britton has left The Denver Post after three years as editor. And David House is looking for new opportunities after leaving the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Former ASNE president Michael Gartner, who sold his interest in the Ames (Iowa) Daily Tribune, has turned to baseball. He is now owner of the Iowa Cubs, a AAA club in Des Moines. Clarence Pennington has retired as editor and publisher of the Review Times in Fostoria, Ohio, following the sale of the paper. Also in Ohio, John Secor is now executive editor of the Troy Daily News. He had been managing editor of The Daily Chronicle in DeKalb, Ill. Edward Jones of The Free Lance-Star in Fredericksburg, Va., was recently promoted from managing editor to editor.  In Michigan, Paul Keep moved from editor of The Bay City Times to the same position at The Flint Journal. Both properties are owned by Booth/Newhouse. John X. Miller is now public editor of the Detroit Free Press. He had been managing editor of The Sun-News, Myrtle Beach, S.C. With the closing of The Indianapolis News, Russell Pulliam became associate editor of the morning Indianapolis Star.  John Simpson, former deputy editor of USA Today, is spending a year in Ireland as visiting professor in the School of Communications at Dublin City University.
