ASNE on the move

ASNE has joined a number of press and free-speech groups in mounting a legal challenge to the Child Online Protection Act, the recently enacted legislation that is successor to the Communications Decency Act.

The U.S. Supreme Court overturned the CDA as an unconstitutional infringement on First Amendment rights. The American Civil Liberties Union is the lead group challenging the COPA. About 20 organizations, including the Newspaper Association of America, National Newspaper Association and librarian groups, have joined in an amici brief in the case of ACLU vs. Reno.
