ASNE on the move

Death has taken three long-term friends and allies of ASNE.

Al Gollin, 69, was a researcher affiliated with the Newspaper Advertising Bureau and its successor, the Newspaper Association of America. Gollin was a key adviser on many of ASNE’s readership and research projects over the years.

Roy Fisher, 80, was dean of the University of Missouri School of Journalism. A former editor-in-chief of the Chicago Daily News, and a former member of ASNE, Fisher was a dogged advocate of the right of the American people to have access to information possessed by governmental bodies. He worked with ASNE to help create the Freedom of Information Act.

Dorothy McPhillips, 79, headed the Journalism Education Association and was closely associated with ASNE’s Education for Journalism Committee for many years, bringing a focus on high school journalism.
