ASNE is "in the field" with the annual employment survey, according to Narda Zacchino, associate editor of the Los Angeles Times and chair of ASNE's Diversity Committee.

"Please respond promptly to the survey, so that we can have a full report for the April convention," she asks members.

ASNE annually tracks progress in newsroom diversity, and the employment survey provides other benchmarks that are useful to editors.

Usually, two-thirds of all daily newspapers participate in ASNE's annual census.

Last year's census, unveiled at the annual convention, revealed that minorities continued their 19-year expansion in America's newsrooms. Minority representation stood at a record high of 11.02 percent

Total newsroom employment stood at 55,000.
