Job fairs offer editors a unique opportunity to interview dozens of minority applicants around the country. Editor recruiters can interview minority college juniors and seniors for entry-level openings and internships. Recruiters pay their own transportation and hotel costs. Seminars on newsroom diversity and group meals are part of the conference. Usually there is a modest registration fee for each newspaper that participates to help offset the job fair’s cost. There is no limit on the number of recruiters from a particular newspaper.
Three (Detroit; Tacoma, Wash.; and Richmond, Va.) will be co-sponsored by the Newspaper Association of America and will include recruiting for business-side newspaper jobs (advertising, marketing, circulation, personnel operations).
