ASNE on the move

Diana Mitsu Klos has joined ASNE as project director.

Klos comes to the position from the Poughkeepsie (N.Y.) Journal, where she was managing editor.

Prior positions have included city editor of the Norwich (Conn.) Bulletin and staff writer for the Asbury Park (N.J.) Press and the Daily Journal of Vineland, N.J.

"This position provides an exceptional opportunity to work with top editors and others in addressing key issues that ultimately affect the quality of a free and independent press in the U.S. and around the world," Klos said.

The project director is responsible for ASNE's three major ongoing projects:

  • Institute for Journalism Excellence, which strengthens the connection between newspapers and journalism education through a summer program in which educators retool their newsroom experience.

  • The Freedom Forum/ASNE International Journalism Exchange, a six-week program in which newspaper editors from around the world give an international perspective to U.S. newsrooms while they focus on issues ranging from press freedom to newspaper management.

  • And the Journalism Values Institute, a series of regional seminars around the country to help newspapers revitalize journalism's core values and restore connections with the public.
