Over and over in this Diversity Pacesetters Award report, editors express the value of diversity in the newsroom and of diverse content in their publications. ASNE’s goal of achieving parity between minority staffing in the newsroom and minorities in the community can be attained only if more editors enthusiastically understand and embrace these diversity values and press to make them happen in their own newsrooms. We reiterate our hope that the Diversity Pacesetter Awards and the Web site and print publication will inspire more newsrooms to move more directly and determinedly toward the parity goal while the diversity leaders retain their outstanding efforts. The benefits of such an achievement are clearly stated throughout this report. Now, more newspapers need to make it happen.
